This is a genuine kabuki hakobune crafted by Yamatoya Kaneyama. It features the iconic character Sukeroku, representing the stylish and charismatic Edoite. The traditional craftsmanship includes appliqué work following the shape of the hakobune. The striking combination of red and black kimono with a purple headband makes this Sukeroku hakobune a highly popular item, especially as a souvenir for international guests.
The hakobune, viewed from the handle, flares out, symbolizing good fortune and serving as a talisman against misfortune since the Heian period. Today, it is often given as a symbol of good luck and protection for a girl's first New Year.
