This exquisite hina doll, meticulously crafted by the traditional artisan Nisei Kōshō, embodies the elegance of the enthronement ceremony. The male doll is dressed in the highest-ranking Heian period garment, the "Kōroze no Gohō," while the female doll wears a 唐衣 (karaginu) adorned with the "Mukaitsuru" pattern and a "Hamanasu" crest, beautifully showcased against a classical gold-leaf folding screen.
The Mukaitsuru pattern depicts a pair of cranes facing each other with their wings spread, symbolizing longevity and marital harmony, making it an auspicious design. The dolls’ graceful smiles and refined features stand out strikingly against the vibrant red mat, which has historically served as a talisman against misfortune. This piece is perfect for celebrating the first festival (Shichigosan) with its traditional beauty and high status.
The custom of hina dolls is said to combine the practice of "Hitogata" (dolls that take on a person's misfortunes) and the "Hina Asobi" (doll play) of the Heian period.
Dimensions (W x D x H): 59.06 × 35.43 × 17.72 inches.
